National Medical Commission approves 100 additional MBBS seats for Tamil Nadu
The National Medical Commission has approved an additional 100 MBBS seats for government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. The expansion will be divided equally between institutions in Namakkal and Tiruppur starting from the 2026-27 academic session.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission for two government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu to expand their student capacity. Under the new directive, the government medical colleges in Namakkal and Tiruppur will each be allowed to increase their annual MBBS intake by 50 seats.
This development will bring the total number of new seats to 100 for the region. The implementation of this seat increase is scheduled to take effect from the academic year 2026-27, providing a significant boost to medical education infrastructure in the state.
