NASA has selected four commercial lunar missions to receive nearly $600 million in funding, with target launch dates set for late 2028. Each mission is designed to carry a standardized suite of three scientific instruments intended to improve navigation and environmental assessment on the lunar surface.

The primary objectives of these flights include studying the effects of dust displacement during landings and mapping radiation levels. These data points are considered essential for ensuring the safety of future crew members and the durability of long-term equipment.

As part of this expansion, the agency also outlined developments for new robotic rovers and a network of communication satellites. These projects are designated as the foundational layers for a permanent lunar base and an increased frequency of cargo deliveries. Source: NASA.
