Meet the Man Who Collected 11 Lakh Mango Seeds to Help Farmers Grow Fruit Orchards

Most of us throw away mango seeds without a second thought. Jasmit Singh Arora collects them instead. The man known as the ‘Gutli Man of India’ is helping farmers grow orchards and bringing back green cover across India.

The villages that changed his mind

While travelling through rural West Bengal, he met farmers struggling with poor soil, falling incomes and uncertain harvests. He wanted to find a solution that would last for generations.

An idea hidden inside a mango

He wondered what would happen if every discarded mango seed became a fruit tree. Farmers could earn from orchards for years while more trees took root across the country.

People thought he was crazy

When Jasmit began collecting mango seeds in 2019, people laughed at him. “Even my friends could not understand why I was collecting mango seeds. But I had a vision,” he says.

Then the seeds started arriving

A video made with his daughter changed everything. Soon, schools, families, soldiers, and juice vendors from across India began sending mango seeds. More than 11 lakh arrived in one season.

Every seed is carefully raised

The seeds are germinated, grown into healthy saplings, and grafted with local mango varieties. This helps every tree adapt to the place where it will eventually grow.

Trees that changed lives

The saplings are given to farmers free of cost along with guidance on natural farming. Healthier soil, fewer chemicals, and an extra source of income slowly follow.

One movement that kept growing

From a few collected gutlis to more than eight lakh fruit tree saplings, Jasmit’s idea has become a nationwide movement followed by thousands of ordinary people.

Why one mango seed matters

A mango tree gives fruit, shade, and a home for birds. It also stores carbon and supports farming families for decades. One seed can leave an impact far beyond a single season.

The next gutli is in your hands

The next time you eat a mango, don’t throw away the seed. Donate it to the Gutli Man and help turn it into a fruit tree for a farmer. To contribute, contact 9831459390. Every gutli has the potential to grow into a forest.
