A 67-year-old man was arrested for killing his son in Salem on Thursday (July 23, 2026).

The arrested was identified as Selvaraj, a resident of Idayapatti near Yethapur, a farmer. His son Sathish (37) stayed with him. Police said that Sathish was addicted to liquor. On Wednesday night (July 22, 2026), he came home in an inebriated state and quarrelled with his father, demanding money.

Later, Sathish went to sleep and, at midnight, Selvaraj, who was also in an inebriated state, allegedly attacked his son using a hammer and killed him. On information, the Yethapur police came to the spot and sent the body to Salem Government Hospital for a post-mortem. The police registered a case, arrested Selvaraj and are investigating further.
