Protest, political optics

The Congress’s protest is commendable in principle, but its brief, flash-style nature makes it appear more like political posturing than principled activism (Page 1, “Congress leaders detained after dharna at PM’s house”, July 22). If the Congress truly stands with aggrieved youth, it should demand a transparent inquiry and sustained accountability instead of resorting to brief street theatrics. The larger issue is not which party scores political points, but whether the grievances of the protesters are addressed sincerely and promptly.

Specific Articles in the Constitution guarantee the freedom of speech and expression, and the right to assemble peacefully. These rights form the foundation of a democratic society. The government must be accountable to the people, especially to the students whose concerns deserve to be heard with respect. The larger demand is for accountability, safe and transparent examinations, and a credible exam system that restores confidence among aspirants.

The protests have also given rise to confusion and competing narratives. Some of the public discourse has shifted toward debating hidden agendas and questioning the motives behind the protest. Such discussions risk diverting attention from the central issue — the concerns raised by the students. In moments of public unrest, transparency and verified facts are essential. Authorities should address legitimate questions through clear communication, while the public should avoid speculation to overshadow genuine grievances.
