Nuclear plant security

The reported data breach involving the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu (Front page, July 16) must be treated as a matter of national security, not as a routine cyber incident. This is not comparable to leaks involving examination papers or administrative databases. Even if the exposed files relate only to conventional infrastructure, they could still help hostile actors map systems, suppliers, and operational dependencies.

An independent, time-bound investigation is essential to establish the facts, fix accountability, and close every security gap. Equally important is transparent public communication.

Confidence in India’s nuclear programme rests not only on robust technology but also on the quiet assurance that safety and cybersecurity are never compromised.
