Ladakh Creates 17 New Tehsils To Cut 300-Km Trips For Government Services

The administration of Ladakh has officially created 17 new tehsils, bringing the total number of sub-districts from 15 to 32. This administrative shift is designed to ensure that the five newly established districts become fully functional and responsive to local needs.

By decentralizing governance, officials aim to assist residents living in remote and border regions who previously faced journeys of up to 300 kilometers to reach government offices. The move is expected to streamline the delivery of public services and simplify administrative procedures across the high-altitude territory.

The expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure and administrative presence in strategically significant areas. By placing officials closer to these communities, the government intends to foster better integration and faster development in the region. Source: Daily Excelsior
