Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) State convener D.G. Sagar on Saturday (July 18) accused the BJP-led Union government of failing to ensure transparency in the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged irregularities.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi city, Mr. Sagar urged the Centre to remove Mr. Pradhan from the Union Cabinet, holding him responsible for the alleged lapses in the conduct of the examination.
He also criticised the Union government for its response to environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike, alleging that the government had not initiated discussions with Mr. Wangchuk at the protest venue despite the agitation continuing for 21 days. He urged the Centre to immediately open a dialogue and address the issues raised by the activist.
Alleging that the Centre was giving precedence to the interests of corporate houses while neglecting the concerns of students and youth, Mr. Sagar stated that the Centre had failed to respond to issues affecting young people and the general public.
Announcing a State-wide protest, he said the DSS would stage demonstrations at all district headquarters on July 23. Memorandums addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outlining the organisation’s demands, would be submitted to the respective Deputy Commissioners, he added.
