Indian-Origin Doctor Jailed In US For Recording Hospital Staff In Bathroom

A federal court has sentenced an Indian-origin doctor to prison following an investigation into illegal recordings made at the ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Ohio. The criminal proceedings began in June 2025 after a hospital employee discovered a cellphone concealed within a unisex staff restroom.

Subsequent forensic analysis of the device and further investigation by local law enforcement linked the recording equipment to the physician. Investigators found that the device had been positioned to surreptitiously capture footage of staff members without their consent or knowledge.

ProMedica officials cooperated with the investigation and confirmed that the individual’s employment was terminated shortly after the discovery. The court emphasized the breach of privacy and trust inherent in the doctor's actions during the sentencing hearing. Source: ProMedica Toledo Hospital Report.
