Even Nvidia’s head of automotive fights with Nvidia for compute
Nvidia's automotive head Xinzhou Wu reveals that even internal departments must compete for the company's highly sought-after GPUs. Despite being a core supplier for the industry, the automotive division faces the same scarcity challenges as external tech giants.
Xinzhou Wu, the head of automotive at Nvidia, stated that his division frequently has to lobby for internal access to the company's own computing power. As Nvidia's GPUs have become the foundational infrastructure for the global generative AI boom, internal demand has surged alongside external orders from major tech firms.
The automotive unit requires significant compute resources to train advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving models. Wu noted that the process of securing these chips involves a level of internal competition, highlighting that not even Nvidia's own executives have a guaranteed surplus of hardware.
This internal friction underscores the extreme market pressure on Nvidia's supply chain as it maintains its position as one of the world's most valuable companies.
