Electrification of Pattukottai-Karaikudi broad gauge section nearing completion

Work on the electrification of the 70-km stretch between Pattukottai and Karaikudi is nearing completion, marking the final phase of a larger regional initiative. Senior officials have indicated that the project is in its finishing stages, which will allow for a seamless transition from diesel to electric traction across the network.

Upon the activation of this section, all railway lines under the jurisdiction of the Tiruchi Railway Division will be open to electric locomotives. This shift is expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of rail travel throughout the division's extensive broad gauge corridors.

In preparation for the energisation of the overhead lines, railway authorities have issued a formal notification to the public residing near the tracks. Residents and commuters are urged to exercise extreme caution as high-voltage systems are being tested and integrated into the daily rail operations.
