Direct tax mop-up grows 16% to over ₹6.51 lakh crore so far in FY27
India's net direct tax collections have recorded sharp growth of 16% to exceed ₹6.51 lakh crore in the current fiscal year. The surge is primarily driven by a robust increase in corporate tax receipts alongside steady non-corporate tax contributions.

Net direct tax collections have reached ₹6.51 lakh crore as of mid-July in the current fiscal year, representing a 16% increase compared to the previous period. This fiscal momentum reflects strong economic activity and improved compliance across major tax categories according to government data.
Corporate tax collections witnessed a significant rise of 22%, totaling ₹2.40 lakh crore. The data highlights a substantial uptick in industrial and services sector earnings during the early months of FY27, bolstering the government's fiscal position.
Non-corporate taxes, which encompass payments from individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, and firms, grew by approximately 12% to reach ₹3.84 lakh crore. This segment remains a primary contributor to the overall direct tax mop-up across the national economy.
