Deal with U.S. ‘ready’ but comparative advantage aspect still being worked out, says Commerce Secretary

Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal has announced that a new trade arrangement with the United States is effectively ready for signature. While the fundamental framework is in place, both nations are reportedly ongoing discussions regarding the comparative advantage aspects of the deal to ensure bilateral benefits.

Addressing the timeline for the agreement, Agrawal indicated that progress is not strictly dependent on the resolution of current regulatory reviews. He suggested that the deal could be formally signed even before the United States completes its existing investigations into various trade partners.

The negotiations aim to strengthen economic ties between the two global powers by addressing market access and manufacturing incentives. Government officials continue to work through the finer technical details to finalize the pact, which is viewed as a strategic priority for India's export growth.
