A court has ordered compensation of approximately Rs 32 lakh for a bridesmaid, identified as Zhang, following a wedding day prank that resulted in severe physical trauma. The incident took place when Zhang was left in a room with a group of approximately 10 men, primarily consisting of groomsmen, who intended to engage in traditional wedding hazing rituals.
According to reports, Zhang was dragged from a closet and forced onto a bed before being repeatedly tossed into the air using a bedsheet. This hazardous activity resulted in her falling and sustaining critical injuries that have left her with a permanent disability. The court found the participants liable for the dangerous nature of their actions during the celebration.
The ruling emphasizes the legal consequences of 'naohun,' or wedding hazing, which has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years due to reports of violence and harassment.
