Crime Branch to re-arrest Dr. M.K Ram in Nithin Raj death case

Crime Branch SP M. Mohanachandran on Wednesday said the investigating agency would re-arrest Dr. M.K. Ram, the first accused in the death of first-year BDS student Nithin Raj of Kannur Dental College, Anjarakandy. A fresh Crime Branch team has taken over the probe and commenced its investigation in Kannur.

Addressing the media, Mr. Mohanachandran said DySP Jeevan George has been entrusted with leading the investigation, and an application seeking permission to re-arrest Dr. Ram has already been filed before the court, and further action will be taken in accordance with the court’s order.

The Crime Branch will record the statements of Nithin Raj’s family members again to determine whether any aspect of the case were overlooked during the earlier investigation. The team will also examine the alleged involvement of loan app operators in connection with the student’s death.

The SP said the Crime Branch has already submitted its explanation before the court regarding the lapses pointed out in the earlier investigation. The fresh probe began on Wednesday after the new investigating team arrived in Kannur.
