CM launches Kochi Corporation’s third ro-ro vessel
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has officially launched the Kochi Corporation’s third roll-on/roll-off vessel. This new addition aims to significantly improve the ferry service between Fort Kochi and Vypeen.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the Kochi Corporation’s third ro-ro vessel during a ceremony on Friday. The vessel was constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited at a cost of approximately ₹15 crore to address the growing demand for reliable public transport across the city's shipping channels.
The new vessel is expected to alleviate long-standing congestion issues on the Fort Kochi-Vypeen route, which currently relies on two older vessels. Local officials stated that the additional capacity will ensure that services can continue uninterrupted even when one vessel is docked for mandatory maintenance.
Following the launch, the vessel will undergo final safety trials and licensing procedures before entering full commercial operation. The project is part of a larger initiative to modernize urban water transport and provide a cost-effective alternative for commuters and tourists in the region.
