Delhi Police personnel intercepted the demonstrators at Jantar Mantar, leading to physical confrontations as officers moved to enforce existing restrictions.
The police department had formally denied the CJP permission to hold the rally, citing security concerns and public order. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 had been activated prior to the event to prevent the formation of large crowds in the sensitive diplomatic and administrative zone.
Several protesters were detained by security forces after they attempted to breach the barricades erected around the protest site.
