Cab driver held for sexually assaulting IndiGo cabin crew member en route to RGIA
A 23-year-old cab driver was arrested for sexually assaulting an IndiGo airline cabin crew member while she was travelling to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to report for duty.
The accused, identified as Prashant Kumar, was employed as a driver with the airline’s cab service for staff.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 2 p.m. on July 20, when the woman boarded the cab from her residence in Shamshabad to travel to the airport for work. Instead of heading towards the airport, the driver diverted the vehicle to a secluded area near an under-construction school on the outskirts of Shamshabad, where he sexually assaulted her.
Hearing the woman’s screams, workers at the nearby construction site rushed to her aid. On seeing them approach, the accused fled the spot, police said.
The workers alerted the RGIA police, who reached the location, rescued the woman and recorded her statement.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused on Tuesday.
Further investigation is under way.
