The Indian firm, also named Anthropic, has moved to protect its brand identity by serving a legal notice to the San Francisco-based AI developer. A spokesperson for the Belagavi company stated that their operations under this name predate the American firm's establishment, asserting a legal claim based on the principle of prior usage.

To overcome the jurisdictional challenges of international litigation, the Belagavi entity utilized the Hague Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents. This mechanism provides a standardized protocol for delivering legal papers across international borders, ensuring the US company is officially notified of the claim.

Legal experts note that trademark disputes of this nature often hinge on the ability to prove documented business activity and brand recognition within a specific timeframe. The Belagavi-based engineer leading the charge emphasized that they are seeking to protect their existing intellectual property rights and market presence from international encroachment.
