At least five school girls fall unconscious after gas leak from PNG pipeline in Bihar

Four of them regained consciousness while one faced slight health complications, SDM (East) said

Five schoolgirls fell unconscious on Friday (July 17, 2026) in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, following a gas leak from a PNG pipeline that was damaged during drainage construction work, an official said.

The incident occurred at Rohua village under the Musahri block.

“The gas leaked after the pipeline was damaged. Five schoolgirls fell unconscious after inhaling it,” SDM (East) Anand Utsav said.

“All the five girls were initially taken to a nearby primary health centre. Four of them regained consciousness while one faced slight health complications. As part of precaution, all of them were then referred to the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital,” Mr. Utsav said.

Three of them study in Class 9, one in Class 10 and another in Class 11, principal in-charge Someshwar Prasad told reporters.

An inquiry is under way into the incident, the SDM added.
