Anantapur set to become garbage-free with new waste processing plant

Swachh Andhra Corporation Limited (SACL) Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram and Anantapur Urban MLA Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad stated that Anantapur municipality would be transformed into a garbage-free town.

Mr. Pattabhiram and Mr. Venkateswara Prasad on Tuesday jointly inspected the municipal dumping yard located on Gooty road in Anantapur. They said efforts were under way to resolve the long-standing issue in Anantapur by clearing the existing dumping yard completely and establishing a fresh waste processing plant.

They claimed that approximately 3,78,481 metric tonnes of garbage had accumulated at the site over the years due to the negligence of the previous government. The clearance work was divided into two packages, and tenders have already been released and awarded. They stated that the waste disposal operations were proceeding rapidly although the previous deadline for clearing the waste could not be met.

The Swachh Andhra Corporation is now set to establish a plant capable of processing 170 metric tonnes of waste daily at a cost of ₹17.50 crore. Preparations are under way to clear the old site by August 15 to facilitate the construction of the fresh waste processing plant, they added.

A separate location has been identified to handle the approximately 150 metric tonnes of daily city waste, ensuring it does not mix with the existing legacy waste. Old structures at that site will be removed to accommodate the daily waste intake. They reiterated that the site for the fresh waste plant would be cleared and construction work initiated by August 15.
