‘Sanjay Dutt was trembling with fear’: Ujjwal Nikam on what actor said after he was sentenced

Supervising prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam recently revisited the legal proceedings surrounding actor Sanjay Dutt in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. Nikam recalled that after the court announced the sentencing, the actor was visibly shaken and trembling with fear during their private interaction.

According to Nikam, Dutt approached him to ask if he could be kept in a cell away from the other convicts involved in the blast conspiracy. The actor reportedly expressed deep concern about his safety and did not wish to be associated with the terrorists sentenced in the same case.

Nikam explained that while he performed his duty as a prosecutor to ensure conviction based on evidence, he witnessed the raw human emotion as the actor realized the gravity of his situation. Dutt eventually served his sentence in Yerwada Central Jail before being released in 2016. Source: The Times of India.
