144 Refugees Dead Or Missing Since Mauritania Maritime Incidents: UN Report
Recent maritime incidents near Mauritania have left 144 refugees dead or missing following a series of perilous sea crossings. Despite the loss of life, rescue operations successfully brought nearly 400 individuals safely to the shore of Nouadhibou.
A recent report from the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) indicates a significant loss of life off the coast of Mauritania. The agency confirmed that 144 refugees are dead or missing following multiple maritime incidents involving vessels attempting to navigate regional waters.
Between July 14 and 18, local authorities and rescue teams conducted three separate operations in the city of Nouadhibou. These emergency efforts resulted in 387 people of various nationalities being safely disembarked after their boats encountered distress while at sea.
