A 45-year-old woman from Warangal, India, has returned home after being allegedly confined and subjected to harassment in Muscat, Oman. The rescue followed intervention by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao.

Mohammed Mahamuda traveled to Oman on July 16 with the promise of domestic work, entering on a tourist visa. She stated that an agent transferred her to a sub-agent who then confiscated her passport and mobile phone, confining her to a room. Ms. Mahamuda alleged she was forced to work against her will and experienced harassment and physical assault. She also reported being threatened with a theft case if she attempted to return to India.

The sub-agent reportedly demanded approximately ₹1.13 lakh, claiming it covered her travel expenses to Muscat. After the situation was brought to the attention of K. T. Rama Rao, he pledged to cover her return expenses. His intervention initiated efforts, involving the Indian Embassy and Muscat Police, to locate and rescue Ms. Mahamuda.

Following approximately a week of efforts, Ms. Mahamuda was traced and brought to the Indian Embassy, where she remained under official care for three days. Her passport was subsequently recovered from the sub-agent.

Ms. Mahamuda arrived safely in Hyderabad on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. She expressed gratitude to Mr. Rao and all involved in her release, noting his swift response and coordination with the BRS NRI Cell, the Indian Embassy, and local authorities. Mr. Rao advised individuals seeking overseas employment, particularly in Gulf countries, to avoid using tourist visas. He emphasized the importance of traveling only on valid employment or work visas, and thoroughly verifying recruitment agents, employers, and job offers prior to departure from India to prevent potential exploitation.
