Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, former chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board and YSRCP district president, has called for the TTD to perform a ‘Varuna Yagam,’ a ritual intended to invoke the rain god. Reddy expressed disappointment that the TTD administration has not scheduled this ceremony, especially considering the current dry spell.

He pointed out that the Sri Mallikarjuna Devasthanam at Srisailam and the Durga Malleswara Devasthanam at Vijayawada have already conducted similar rituals in response to public sentiment regarding the lack of rainfall. Reddy stated that as the world's largest temple trust and a proponent of Sanatana Dharma, the TTD has a responsibility to conduct the ‘Varuna Yagam’ to support the global farming community experiencing hardship.

Reddy recalled that the TTD had previously organized numerous rituals during the COVID-19 pandemic to offer solace and moral support to devotees.
