## Tamil Nadu Overhauls School Infrastructure and Security

## Targeted Support for Students and Curriculum Reform

The TVK-led government is prioritizing student mobility and social equity through direct subsidies. Approximately 5.32 lakh Class XI students in state and state-aided institutions will receive branded bicycles equipped with helmets and water bottles, a project costing 277 crore rupees. To support gifted students from economically marginalized backgrounds, the state will launch Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Schools of Excellence. These residential institutions will provide free tuition, housing, and materials for students in grades IX through XII, supported by a 125 crore rupee infrastructure fund.

Furthermore, the state has allocated 25 crore rupees to overhaul the academic curriculum. The updated framework will transition toward experiential and inquiry-based learning. The budget also addresses public health and digital access. A new 7 crore rupee anti-drug strategy involves establishing student volunteer groups and Anti-Drug Clubs in schools. Authorities will promote the 10581 helpline and a dedicated mobile application for the confidential reporting of substance abuse and trafficking. Additionally, the government plans to convert 38 district central libraries into 24/7 digital innovation hubs, featuring co-working spaces and free Wi-Fi, at a cost of 10 crore rupees.
