As India enhances its capabilities in drones, satellites, and defence, onboard sensors such as radar, LiDAR, and hyperspectral imagers are generating data at a rate that exceeds the storage and transmission capacity of current platforms, especially in remote locations lacking continuous ground station connectivity. This situation compels operators to make compromises regarding data volume, quality, transmission speed, and cost. Quarkitech’s technology aims to address this challenge at the point of data capture. Its algorithms can compress sensor data by factors of 10 to 100, depending on the sensor type, while preserving essential mission-critical information. This enables platforms to transmit more usable data within existing bandwidth and power limitations, without requiring additional hardware or communication infrastructure.

The product is a software library that operates on a platform’s existing onboard computing resources. It features specific optimizations for radar, LiDAR, hyperspectral, and electro-optical data streams, allowing the same approach to be implemented on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) downlinks, satellite payloads, or ground-segment archives. Quarkitech utilizes tensor networks, mathematical frameworks initially developed for modeling complex quantum systems, to identify and eliminate redundancy in high-volume sensor data. This approach allows for significantly faster and more cost-effective computation, alongside substantially more efficient data transmission from high-value sensors, according to the company’s CEO and Founder, Sanyam Parashar.

The company reports that in laboratory tests, its technology achieved a 26-fold reduction in data volume while retaining 98% of mission-critical information from drone-captured images. Quarkitech is currently working to validate these findings under real-world operational conditions, including environments with moving platforms, extreme temperatures, limited onboard power, and intermittent connectivity. The technology targets operators whose sensors produce more data than their communication links can handle, including UAV and surveillance platforms, satellite earth-observation payloads, radar and LiDAR mapping fleets, and the ground systems that manage and process incoming data.
