Former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal sustained a hand injury after being attacked with a kirpan outside Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur, near Nanded, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on Thursday when Badal was visiting the gurdwara, located approximately 15 km from the main Gurdwara Nanded Sahib.

The attack took place as Badal was reportedly proceeding towards the langar hall. The gurdwara where the incident occurred is managed by a Nihang sect and is separate from the administration of the main Nanded Sahib gurdwara. Following the assault, Badal was taken to Yashosai Hospital for medical attention. A video circulating after the event showed Badal with a saffron cloth wrapped around his right hand.

Badal had arrived in Nanded on Wednesday with his family and associates for a three-day visit. His wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a Shiromani Akali Dal Member of Parliament, was with him at the gurdwara.

This incident follows a previous reported attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal on December 4, 2024, in Amritsar, where an alleged assassination attempt occurred at the Golden Temple. In that event, a security officer reportedly intervened, preventing the bullet from hitting Badal.
