A 45-year-old inmate, Gangasahay Kumawat, who was serving a life sentence for a 2018 murder, was shot and killed in Jaipur. Police are investigating the incident as a revenge killing.

Kumawat was shot in the head by two individuals on a scooter near Mishra Market in Janaki Vihar Colony on Wednesday evening. He had left Sanganer Open Prison on his motorcycle and was intercepted by the assailants. He was transported to SMS Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Jaipur West Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prashant Kiran, stated that the two men on the scooter stopped Kumawat, shot him, and then fled the scene. Police have recovered empty cartridges and a magazine from the location.

Within 24 hours of the incident, authorities detained three suspects: Sonu Rajak, 19, Amit Rana, 22, and Kanhaiya Lal Gurjar, 40. Technical surveillance and local intelligence were instrumental in their apprehension.

According to police, Kumawat was imprisoned for the 2018 murder of Mahendra Gurjar. Investigators suspect that Mahendra Gurjar's son, Ayush Gurjar, may have orchestrated Kumawat's killing through his associates. Sonu and Amit are alleged to have carried out the shooting, while Kanhaiya is suspected of arranging the firearms. Ayush Gurjar is believed to have fled to Nepal.

A case has been registered at the Karni Vihar police station based on a complaint filed by Kumawat's brother. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
