Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has threatened a hunger strike if the state government does not recommend a CBI investigation into recruitment exam irregularities within seven days. Thousands of students have been protesting alleged scams for over two weeks.

## Key takeaways

- Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has threatened to go on a hunger strike.
- The hunger strike is conditional on the state government not recommending a CBI probe into recruitment exam irregularities within seven days.
- Thousands of students have been protesting alleged recruitment scams in Jharkhand for 19 days.
- Das also demanded ₹1 crore compensation for the kin of 19 individuals who died during constable recruitment physical tests in 2024.

Raghubar Das, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, announced on Wednesday his intention to begin a hunger strike if the current JMM-led government fails to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations within one week. Das, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, stated that if the government is not involved, it should approve a CBI inquiry.

The call for a CBI investigation comes amid ongoing protests by thousands of students, who have been demonstrating for 19 days under the banner of 'JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch'. These students are alleging massive recruitment scams occurred over the past six years under the JMM administration. Das accused the government of jeopardizing the futures of numerous students.

Additionally, Das demanded compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of 19 individuals who reportedly died during physical tests for excise constable recruitment in 2024. Reports indicate that more than 15 aspirants lost their lives during these physical assessments in the same year. The BJP has previously criticized the Hemant Soren government, attributing these deaths to administrative negligence.

Das also condemned alleged attempts by the Ranchi district administration to forcibly remove protesting students from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. He cautioned administrative officials against succumbing to political pressure, emphasizing their accountability to the public and the central government.
