India has responded to comments made by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide regarding Kashmir during his visit to Pakistan. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the international community should instead focus on Pakistan's alleged use of illegally occupied territory to support cross-border terrorism.

During a joint press briefing with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad, Eide had referred to Kashmir as one of the regional issues discussed. Dar stated that he briefed Eide on the "long-standing unresolved" dispute over Kashmir and what he described as a new dimension to the "volatile security situation" due to India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

Responding to questions about Eide's comments, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal affirmed India's position that the entirety of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh are integral parts of India. Jaiswal added that concerns should be directed towards the "atrocities" in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and its use for cross-border terrorism.

India has previously criticized Pakistan's handling of protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir related to the cost of living and local assembly elections. Reports indicate dozens of deaths occurred during security force crackdowns on protests led by the Joint Awami Action Committee.

Jaiswal also addressed remarks by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concerning India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Jaiswal confirmed no change in India's stance on the treaty, which was suspended following a terror attack in April of the previous year. Sharif had previously called India an "enemy of peace" for suspending the treaty and declared that any action against Pakistan's water resources would be met with a direct response.
