Andhra Pradesh State Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Trust (HDPT) Chairman Dasari Srinivasulu has called for concerted efforts to restore and protect the Gundlakamma river. He announced plans for a nine-day awareness tour along the riverbanks, scheduled from October 11 to October 20, coinciding with the Navaratri festival.

The HDPT, an official trust operating under the Endowments department, has already initiated a plantation drive, named ‘Haritha Haram’, along both sides of the 280 km-long river. This drive commenced on June 5.

Mr. Srinivasulu stated that the upcoming tour is intended to foster awareness, service, devotion, and social responsibility among villagers along the Gundlakamma. The objective is to engage with local populations, understand their concerns regarding the river, and motivate them to preserve the natural heritage. The initiative will also focus on educating youth about river protection for future generations.

Key areas of focus for the awareness campaign include safeguarding water resources, preserving the village ecosystem and native tree species, and promoting cleanliness and sanitation. The trust also aims to address pollution prevention, conserve archaeological and historical heritage, encourage community involvement, and advocate for sustainable living practices.
