The Navya Andhra Teachers Association (NTA) has called for a revision of the AP Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Paper-II (A) examination system. The teachers' body is urging the state government to implement separate question papers or subject-wise options for candidates seeking to teach mathematics, physics, and biology.

According to NTA State president K. Harikrishna and general secretary M. Srinivasa Rao, administering a single common examination for these distinct disciplines is inappropriate. They highlighted that while subjects like Telugu, Hindi, English, and Social Studies receive 60 marks for the respective subject, the mathematics-science category divides the 60 marks among mathematics, physics, and biology.

This division forces candidates to answer questions outside their specialization. The association noted that TET marks contribute 20% to teacher recruitment, and candidates' merit rankings should not be impacted by questions unrelated to their expertise.

The NTA emphasized that their proposal does not aim to lower TET standards. Instead, they stated that a candidate's subject knowledge and teaching aptitude should be assessed primarily in their qualified teaching subject. They suggested forming an expert committee and implementing a subject-specific TET system for mathematics, physics, and biology, in line with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) rules, starting with future examinations.
